SHEET 02Why quantities decide bids

Why quantities decide bids:
the exclusion you didn't catch
eats the margin you did.

Cheap takeoffs are cheap per job and expensive per error. One missed head-of-wall condition, one spandrel panel the schedule forgot, one moisture-mitigation allowance left open — and the job you won becomes the job you eat. Senior counting isn't a luxury. It's the margin.

SHEET 09Service areaAll work is digital

Where we work:
takeoff services across Canada

SharpBid is based in Metro Vancouver and works for subcontractors right across the country. Nothing needs to be local: you send a drawings link, we measure in On-Screen Takeoff and Bluebeam Revu, and the workbook and marked-up plans come back by your deadline — in the units and cost codes you bid in.

…and anywhere in Canada — everything is digital. Send drawings for a fixed quote.

SHEET 11Questions subs ask

Takeoff service FAQs —
straight answers

What exactly do I get?
An Excel quantity workbook organized to CSI MasterFormat or your own cost codes, a marked-up PDF plan set showing every measured area in colour, and an assumptions & exclusions page. Don't imagine it — download the sample and open it.
How much does a construction takeoff cost?
Single-trade finish takeoffs (flooring, painting, drywall & steel stud) and acoustic ceilings start at $450. Concrete and formwork on low-rise or small sites starts at $500, with high-rise cast-in-place quoted per project. Misc metals, roofing & envelope, and framing wall & sheathing areas start at $600. Glazing starts at $900. A full lumber breakdown starts at $1,500 and is quoted per project. Minimum engagement is $450 — the full schedule is on the takeoff pricing page.
How does the on-time guarantee work?
Every written quote includes a delivery date. If the takeoff arrives after that date, you pay half. No fine print, no "business exceptions" — the date is the date. Addenda that change scope reset the date in writing, so both sides always know the number.
Do you price the work too?
Not by default — you know your unit rates, your crews and your suppliers better than anyone. That's the point. If you want them, price placeholders (+15%) make the workbook bid-ready on arrival, and a quote template (+$150) gets your number to the GC in a clean, professional format.
How fast is turnaround?
Single-trade takeoffs: next business day standard. Larger sets get a firm delivery date with the fixed quote — within 4 business hours of you sending drawings. Same-day rush is +50%. Retainer clients jump the queue.
What software do you use?
On-Screen Takeoff and Bluebeam Revu for measurement, advanced Excel for the workbook. Deliverables open anywhere — no special software needed on your end.
What trades do you not cover?
Mechanical and electrical. SharpBid does not take off Divisions 21 through 28 — no ductwork, piping, conduit or cable tray. Most other CSI MasterFormat divisions are covered, and the nine trades above are where the work concentrates.
What about revisions and addenda?
One revision round is included with every takeoff. Addenda and scope changes during the bid period are handled promptly — that's part of the service, not an extra.
Is the sample takeoff from a real project?
The format is exactly what clients receive; the project is fictitious. Client drawings and numbers are never shared — which is also how yours will be treated.
Do you work outside Metro Vancouver?
Yes — everything is digital, so SharpBid serves subcontractors across Canada. See British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Metro Vancouver is home turf, which means local assemblies and bid culture are second nature.
Are quantities metric or imperial?
Whichever you bid in. Commercial and institutional sets in Canada are commonly metric; residential work is often imperial. Tell us which you price with and the workbook arrives in those units — or both columns, if that's easier for your crews.
Why the $450 minimum?
Because below that, senior review can't add enough value to be worth your money — a cheap mill is genuinely the better fit. SharpBid exists for the bids where getting quantities right changes whether you win, and what you make.
